About

David Sheiner is an American actor born on January 13, 1928, in New York, New York. Though he built a substantial career in film and television, he also worked in theater, appearing on Broadway in 1955 in the comedy Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?.

Sheiner began his professional career in television in 1952, and his most productive period spanned the 1960s through the 1980s. Among his film appearances, he played James the Elder in The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) and had roles in They Call Me Mister Tibbs! (1970) and Blue Thunder (1983). He also featured prominently in The Stone Killer (1973), directed by Michael Winner and starring Charles Bronson. His most recognized film role came in The Odd Couple (1968), where he played Roy, the accountant and poker-playing companion to the characters portrayed by Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

On television, Sheiner accumulated an extensive list of guest appearances across numerous series. He appeared twice on Combat!, portraying Captain Ridell in the third-season episode "The Steeple" (1965) and SS Major Krieghoffen in the fifth-season episode "Gadjo" (1967). His other television credits include Columbo, The Twilight Zone, Mission: Impossible, The Fugitive, Bonanza, The Big Valley, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Hawaii Five-O, The Invaders, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Blue Light, Planet of the Apes, Cannon, S.W.A.T., Quincy M.E., Vega$, Blind Ambition, and The Fall Guy. On Hawaii Five-O, he appeared in the two-part episode "Once Upon a Time." Sheiner retired from acting in 1988.
