About

David Martin Ruprecht, born October 14, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American actor and game show host. The son of a Lutheran minister, he grew up in Florida and graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg in 1966. He is a practicing member of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and currently resides in Northern California.

Ruprecht began his professional career in television commercials in the late 1970s before accumulating guest appearances on more than 50 television series. Among his notable roles, he appeared in the series finale of Three's Company, in which his character married Janet Wood, played by Joyce DeWitt. He also appeared in HBO's True Blood and in the 1981 television film The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island, portraying Thurston Howell IV, the son of Thurston Howell III. From 1990 to 1992, he held the recurring role of Dan Ryan on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives. He additionally performed voice-over work for the 1985 animated series Yogi's Treasure Hunt.

On stage, Ruprecht co-starred in the Broadway production of Perfectly Frank in 1980, as well as in the Showtime production of the same show. His game show hosting career began in 1990 when he took on the role of host of Supermarket Sweep, which aired on Lifetime and later PAX, a position he held until the show's cancellation in 2003. He auditioned as announcer for the 2020 ABC revival of the series, hosted by Leslie Jones. Ruprecht has also hosted the live stage version of The Price Is Right at casino venues in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Mississippi, and Connecticut, and has hosted Family Feud Live.

Outside of entertainment, Ruprecht has served on the board of directors for the Downsize DC Foundation and as Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of California. He is a long-standing member of Rotary International. His first marriage, to actress Ann Wilkinson, ended in divorce. He married choreographer Patti Colombo in November 1988. He has no children.
