About
David Rounds (October 9, 1930 – December 9, 1983) was an American actor born in Bronxville, New York, whose career spanned stage, television, and screen. Before establishing himself in the theater, Rounds served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
His Broadway career extended from 1964 to 1980 and encompassed a range of productions, including Child's Play, The Last of Mrs. Lincoln, the play Chicago, and Romeo and Juliet. In 1970, he received a Theatre World Award in recognition of his emerging work on the stage. A decade later, Rounds earned both the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play, both in 1980, for his performance in Morning's at Seven.
Beyond Broadway, Rounds maintained an active presence in television. He appeared as the character Wendell in two episodes of the sitcom Alice and portrayed Christopher Spencer in the miniseries The Blue and the Grey. His final New York appearance came at Playwrights Horizons, where he performed in the one-man show Herringbone. That production took place approximately one year before his death from cancer on December 9, 1983, in Lomontville, Ulster County, New York. He was 53 years old.
