About
David Larsen is an American stage actor born on April 23, 1980, in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1998, where he performed in numerous productions, including the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he appeared in nine productions during his time there.
Following his conservatory training, Larsen built his early professional career through ensemble work in off-Broadway productions, among them The Sound of Music and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. A three-episode appearance on the television series Boston Public contributed to his visibility and helped lead to his casting as Riff in West Side Story, as well as the lead role of Bobby in the Broadway production of Good Vibrations.
Larsen joined the Broadway company of Billy Elliot: The Musical in October 2008, performing in the ensemble and understudying the role of Tony. In March 2011, he temporarily departed the production to take over the role of Tunny in American Idiot on Broadway, replacing Stark Sands in the part. He remained with American Idiot through its closing performance on April 24, 2011, before returning to Billy Elliot.
In 2013, Larsen played Chris Alvaro, a veteran soldier, in the new musical Hands on a Hardbody. The show had its premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse before transferring to Broadway, where it began previews on February 23, 2013. The production ran for twenty-eight performances prior to closing in April of that year. Later in 2014, Larsen joined the second national tour of The Book of Mormon, taking on the lead role of Elder Kevin Price.
In 2018, Larsen became a member of Under the Streetlamp, a vocal quartet whose other members are alumni of the Chicago and touring productions of Jersey Boys.
