Sandeen began his professional career as a stage actor, appearing on Broadway between 1957 and 1969. His New York credits included original cast productions of The Young Abe Lincoln, Here's Love, A Joyful Noise, and The Fig Leaves Are Falling, as well as a revival of Guys and Dolls.
