About
Dariush Kashani is an American actor working in film, stage, and television. Born in Iran, he relocated to the United States at the age of nine. He attended Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Virginia, where he performed in a production of The King and I, playing the King during his senior year. Kashani subsequently pursued formal actor training, earning an MFA in Acting from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.
Kashani's stage career has included significant work both on and off Broadway. He appeared in Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul at the Brooklyn Academy of Music alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal, and performed in The Invisible Hand at New York Theatre Workshop. His role in the Off-Broadway production of Oslo at Lincoln Center earned him an Obie Award along with the rest of the company.
Oslo marked a turning point in Kashani's Broadway career. He portrayed Hassan Asfour in the 2017 Tony Award-winning production, which also received the Lucille Lortel Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play as part of a sweep of the 2016–2017 awards season. Kashani went on to join the cast of the Broadway musical The Band's Visit, assuming the lead role on March 1, 2018. He returned to Broadway in 2022 to star as Rahim Khan in the premiere production of The Kite Runner.
His screen credits include the role of Bobby Tooch on the television series Ghost Whisperer, Minister Tousi on Madam Secretary, and an appearance in the AMC series Dietland.
