About
Darius Kaleb is an American actor and musician based in Charles County, Maryland. He and his siblings, including twin brothers who attend Berklee College of Music, formed a band called The Brothers Harris, in which Kaleb serves as the drummer. The family was home-schooled, and Kaleb has credited his artistic development to growing up in a musically and artistically talented household rather than to any formal training. He has also pursued writing and has worked on a short film titled The Audition.
Kaleb's Broadway career ran from 2013 to 2014 and included two productions. At age eleven, he appeared in the play A Raisin in the Sun, written by Lorraine Hansberry, in a cast that also featured Denzel Washington and LaTanya Richardson. He subsequently appeared in Motown the Musical, written by Berry Gordy Jr., where he was the youngest actor in the production and took on three roles: Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Berry Gordy Jr. himself. Prior to his Broadway work in New York, Kaleb toured Japan performing in Thriller Live, in which he portrayed a young Michael Jackson.
On television, Kaleb plays Lonnie Wilson in the Netflix series Luke Cage. The character is a teenager from Harlem who encounters the show's title character and is later taken into custody for questioning, during which he is beaten by a police officer. That abuse is subsequently leaked to the media by corrupt politicians. The role engages directly with themes of police brutality and the experiences of young African Americans. Kaleb has also been cast as Jamaal, the younger brother, in the ABC pilot Delores and Jermaine, produced with the involvement of Whoopi Goldberg and Jermaine Fowler.
In the independent film Steps, written by Eddie B. Harris, Kaleb portrays Omar, the son of the film's central character Brian. In addition to his screen and stage work, Kaleb produces music and has a background in singing. He received the Black Essence Hall of Fame Youth Division recognition for his work.
