Darius de Haas

Darius de Haas, born September 29, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American stage actor and singer whose Broadway career spans from 1992 to 2016. He comes from a musical family: his father is bassist Eddie de Haas, and his mother, Geraldine Bey, was a member of the vocal trio Andy and the Bey Sisters. De Haas is recognized for his wide vocal range.

His Broadway credits include Hair, The Gershwins' Fascinating Rhythm, Carousel, Dreamgirls, Rent, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Marie Christine, and Shuffle Along, or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed. Regional work includes the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Children of Eden and the Alliance Theatre's reimagining of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice work Jesus Christ Superstar, retitled JCS Gospel, in which he played Jesus.

In 1999, de Haas received an Obie Award for his performance in the title role of Running Man, a jazz opera by Diedre Murray. His concert work has brought him to several major orchestras, among them the Cincinnati Pops and the Boston Pops, where he has performed and recorded music associated with Billy Strayhorn and Stevie Wonder. He also provides the singing voice for the character Shy Baldwin on the Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

His discography includes Day Dream (2002), Quiet Please with Steven Blier (2010), and Ice on the Hudson: Songs by Renee Rosnes and David Hajdu (2018), as well as contributions to cast and compilation recordings including the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel soundtracks for seasons three released in 2019 and 2020.
