About
Darcy Oake is a Canadian illusionist and magician born on September 27, 1987, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is the younger of two sons of Scott Oake, a Gemini Award-winning broadcaster known for his work on Hockey Night in Canada, and his wife Anne. Oake began practicing magic around age 10 and continued developing his skills throughout his adolescence at St. Paul's High School in Winnipeg.
His early competitive achievements signaled an exceptional trajectory. At 15, Oake was among six young magicians selected from across North America to participate in a Las Vegas magic convention, where he received an award for Most Promising Magician. The following year, at 16, he became the youngest person to win the Pacific Rim Professional Stage Challenge in Seattle. By 18, he had been invited to perform a 21-show run at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California.
Oake's international breakthrough came in 2014 as a finalist on the eighth series of Britain's Got Talent, where he finished in fifth place. His performances, which included a signature dove magic act, drew an estimated 12 million television viewers in the UK and generated millions of additional views online. Later that year, on December 27, 2014, ITV broadcast a one-hour special titled Darcy Oake: Edge of Reality, filmed at the Blackpool Opera House and hosted by Christine Bleakley. In 2015, Oake headlined the Edge of Reality Tour, a 12-date live tour across the United Kingdom that opened in September at venues including Sheffield City Hall and concluded at the London Eventim Apollo.
His television work extended across multiple programs. In March 2015, he appeared as a guest performer on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, performing a grand illusion during the End of the Show Show segment in which TV presenter Jeremy Kyle was made to disappear. In 2016, he performed as a guest on America's Got Talent and was also invited to perform at a private event marking Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle. In 2018, he appeared on Penn & Teller: Fool Us on The CW. In 2021, Oake expanded into scripted television with a guest role in the Canadian crime drama Hudson & Rex, playing a magician named Talon Dwyer in the Season 3 episode Seeing is Deceiving.
Oake's Broadway career spans 2014 to 2018 as a cast member of The Illusionists touring productions. He appeared in both The Illusionists - Witness the Impossible and The Illusionists - Magic of the Holidays. In the latter production, he performed as The Grand Illusionist alongside America's Got Talent champion Shin Lim and mentalist Colin Cloud. Beyond Broadway, Oake has performed for corporate clients including Cisco, HSBC, and TD Bank, and in 2018 served as a featured headliner at the Calgary Stampede, where he performed ten shows at the Grandstand for audiences exceeding 20,000 people per night.
