About

Daniel Seltzer (February 13, 1933 – March 1, 1980) was an actor, professor of English at Princeton University, and Shakespearean scholar born in Passaic, New Jersey. His career spanned academic scholarship, stage performance, and film, with his Broadway work earning him recognition in 1976.

Seltzer completed his undergraduate degree at Princeton in 1954 and earned a PhD from Harvard University in 1957. He joined the Harvard faculty in 1959 and remained there until 1971, when he returned to Princeton as a professor. He served as chairman of Princeton's McCarter Theatre from 1972 to 1976 and continued teaching at Princeton until his death.

His scholarly output included editorial work on several significant texts. His performance earned him a Theatre World Award in 1976 and a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play. Two years later, he appeared in director Paul Mazursky's 1978 film An Unmarried Woman, starring Jill Clayburgh.
