About

Daniel H. Jenkins is an American actor born on January 17, 1963, in New York, New York, whose Broadway career has spanned from 1985 to 2017. The son of actors Ken Jenkins and Joan Patchen, he began performing in high school and community theatre before entering the apprentice program at Actors Theatre of Louisville.

Jenkins made his Broadway debut in 1985 playing Huckleberry Finn in Roger Miller's Big River, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. The following year, his father Ken Jenkins also appeared in the same production, making them a father-son pair on Broadway. Jenkins returned to Big River in 2003 for the Tony-nominated Deaf West signed revival, this time in a different capacity — portraying Mark Twain and serving as the speaking voice for the signed character of Huckleberry Finn.

Among his other Broadway credits, Jenkins played Josh Baskin in Big, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Musical in 1996. He portrayed George Banks in Mary Poppins, and took on the role of Dad in Billy Elliot: The Musical. Additional Broadway appearances include Golden Boy, in which he played Barker, and Oslo, where he portrayed Jan Egeland and Ron Pundak. His stage work also includes Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and Angels in America: Perestroika, both as Prior Walter, as well as Wrong Mountain, in which he played Clifford Pike and Stevens. In October 2008, Jenkins co-wrote and co-performed the play Love Child with Robert Stanton, which ran at Primary Stages and subsequently at New World Stages in New York City.

Jenkins has maintained a parallel screen career alongside his stage work. He played O.C. in Robert Altman's film O.C. and Stiggs, shot in 1983 and released in 1987, and collaborated with Altman again on the 1988 miniseries Tanner '88. On HBO, he appeared in the cable film Florida Straits alongside Raul Julia and Fred Ward. His other screen credits include The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, Cradle Will Rock, The Good Wife, Veep, and Orange Is the New Black. In Martin Scorsese's 2019 film The Irishman, Jenkins portrayed CIA agent E. Howard Hunt.
