Daniel Gerroll is an English actor born in London on October 16, 1951, whose career has spanned theatre, television, and film in both the United Kingdom and the United States. His father, Harry Gerroll, worked as a clothing designer, and his mother, Kathleen Cordelia, née Norman, was a fashion model. Following his mother's death on April 23, 2006, Gerroll learned that his biological father was German building tycoon Heinrich Mendelssohn. He has been married to actress Patricia Kalember since 1986, and the couple have three children: Becca, born in 1985, Ben, born in 1989, and Sophia, born in 1996.
Gerroll's stage work has been central to his career on both sides of the Atlantic. His Broadway appearances span from 1983 to 2003 and include Plenty, The Homecoming, The Enchanted April, High Society, and Misery. Among his off-Broadway and regional credits, he earned the Theatre World Award for his work in The Slab Boys and Knuckle, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Translations, and the Village Voice Obie Award for Sustained Excellence of Performance. His relationship with the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis began in 2004 when he played Henry Higgins in Pygmalion. He subsequently created the role of Scrooge in the Guthrie's updated production of its annual holiday tradition and later played Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing.
Gerroll's film work includes Chariots of Fire, Sir Henry at Rawlinson End, 84 Charing Cross Road, Drop Dead Fred, and Big Business. He portrayed Bronson Alcott in the PBS American Masters documentary Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women. His television credits encompass appearances on both British and American productions, including Miami Vice, Burn Notice, Cheers, Knots Landing, Seinfeld, Blue Bloods, Sex and the City, Law and Order, and The Starter Wife.
