About
Cynthia Meryl is a Broadway performer and theater educator whose career has spanned both professional stage work and arts administration. She appeared on Broadway between 1976 and 1982, with credits that include My Fair Ladies and Nine.
Beyond her performing career, Meryl has worked in television in addition to stage. She is married to Theodore J. Agress, also a veteran of stage and television, and the two collaborated professionally as well as personally.
In 1991, Meryl and Agress co-founded a youth theater organization in New Jersey, initially established under the name Westfield Young Artists Cooperative Theatre (WYACT). The organization operated as a 501(c)3 charitable entity, with a business office in Westfield, New Jersey and a Performing Arts School in Roselle Park, New Jersey. In 2006, the company was renamed New Jersey Youth Theatre to better reflect the broader geographic region it served. Over the course of its existence, the organization produced more than 36 main-stage productions. Meryl and Agress led the organization until their retirement, at which point New Jersey Youth Theatre closed in 2018.
