About

Curtis L. McClarin (December 19, 1969 – March 3, 2014) was an American actor who worked across film, television, and stage. A Brooklyn, New York native, he built a career that spanned from the early 1990s until his death in 2014.

McClarin launched all three branches of his career simultaneously in the early 1990s. His film work during that period included appearances in The Hard Way and Fresh, as well as the television film Murder Without Motive: The Edmund Perry Story, which dramatized the death of Edmund Perry. He also participated in regional theatre productions throughout the United States before establishing himself on Broadway.

His Broadway career ran from 1996 to 2004 and included two productions: the Tony Award-nominated musical Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk and Drowning Crow. Beyond the stage, McClarin accumulated a range of screen credits over the years. His film appearances included Brother to Brother (2004), The Occupant, and The Happening. On television, he took guest roles on series including The Wire, Law & Order: SVU, Damages, The Good Wife, Nurse Jackie, and Oz. He was also credited as the voice of Curtly, a character in Grand Theft Auto III who was ultimately cut from the final release, though his name remained in the game's credits. Additionally, McClarin narrated the audio book Small Steps by Louis Sachar.

McClarin died in his sleep on March 3, 2014, from a brain aneurysm at the age of 44. A sixth-season episode of Nurse Jackie titled "Love Jungle" and the premiere episode of the Adult Swim miniseries Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter, titled "Made Ya Look," were each dedicated to his memory.
