About
Corinna Mura, born Corinna Wall on March 16, 1910, in San Antonio, Texas, was an American actress, cabaret singer, and diseuse. Her parents, Lillian Bright Wall and D. Buckner Wall, guided her musical training from childhood, cultivating her abilities as a coloratura soprano. She died on August 1, 1965, in Mexico City from cancer at the age of 55.
Mura performed for President Franklin D. Roosevelt on three separate occasions. She is also recognized for her appearance in the 1942 film Casablanca, in which she portrayed a woman at Rick's Café Américain performing "Tango Delle Rose" and "La Marseillaise" on guitar.
In 1944, Mura made her Broadway appearance in Cole Porter's musical Mexican Hayride. Her contributions to the production extended to its cast recording, on which she can be heard performing two numbers on the Decca original-cast album.
Beyond her professional career, Mura was stepmother to author and illustrator Edward Gorey.
