About
Corey Daniel Stoll, born March 14, 1976, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is an American actor whose career spans Broadway, film, and television. The son of Judith and Stephen Stoll — his father co-founded The Beacon School — Stoll was raised Jewish in New York City. He studied drama at Long Lake Camp for the Arts from 1988 to 1992 and graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. He earned a degree from Oberlin College in 1998 before completing the Graduate Acting Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2003.
Stoll made his Broadway debut that same year as a member of the ensemble in the 2003 revival of Shakespeare's Henry IV at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre. The following year, he earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play for his work in the off-Broadway production Intimate Apparel, in which he appeared opposite Viola Davis. He returned to Broadway in 2007 in John Van Druten's Old Acquaintance, and in 2010 he portrayed Marco in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge, sharing the stage with Liev Schreiber and Scarlett Johansson. In 2023, Stoll appeared in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's Appropriate alongside Sarah Paulson, Natalie Gold, and Elle Fanning, a performance that earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play.
On television, Stoll gained wide recognition playing Congressman Peter Russo in the first season of the Netflix political thriller House of Cards, a role that brought him a Golden Globe nomination in 2013. He subsequently starred as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather in the FX horror drama The Strain, based on novels by Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro, which ran from 2014 to 2017. He was also a series regular on NBC's Law & Order: LA from 2010 to 2011, playing LAPD Detective Tomas Jaruszalski. From 2020 to 2023, he portrayed Michael Prince, a business rival to protagonist Bobby Axelrod, in the Showtime series Billions. It was also announced in January 2019 that Stoll would recur in the Netflix drama Ratched.
Stoll's film work includes his portrayal of Ernest Hemingway in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris in 2011, for which he received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Male. He wore a custom wig for the role. He reunited with Allen in the 2016 film Café Society, playing gangster Ben Dorfman. His other film credits include North Country, Lucky Number Slevin, Black Mass, First Man, The Seagull, The Many Saints of Newark, and West Side Story. Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stoll played Darren Cross, also known as Yellowjacket and later M.O.D.O.K., in Ant-Man and its sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
In his personal life, Stoll became engaged to actress Nadia Bowers in October 2014. The two married on June 21, 2015, and welcomed their first child in October of that year.
