About
Corey John Snide is an American actor and dancer born on December 19, 1993, in Albany, New York. He began dancing at age three, receiving training in tap, jazz, ballet, street, and contemporary styles at Eleanor's School of the Dance. His early competitive career brought him titles and awards across the United States in the 13-and-under category. Snide represented the United States at the World Competition 10 and Under in Riesa, Germany, earning gold medals in both tap and show dance for his age category. He also received the Mini and Junior Outstanding Dancer Awards from the New York City Dance Alliance.
Snide's professional career began in 2007 when he successfully auditioned in the United States for the title role of Billy in Billy Elliot the Musical. He traveled to the United Kingdom to train for the London West End production and made his first performance on May 16, 2007, at the Victoria Palace Theatre. He performed in London through November 2007, at which point he was temporarily transferred to the Sydney production to replace an injured Nick Twiney. His Sydney debut took place on December 8, 2007, and he continued there through January 19, 2008, before returning to London. Further injuries to the Australian cast, this time to Lochlan Denholm, brought him back to Sydney on February 27, 2008, before he again returned to London in March 2008. His final performance as Billy took place in London on July 5, 2008.
Snide's Broadway career spanned from 2008 to 2020 and included credits in West Side Story, Carousel, Cats, and 13. In the Broadway production of 13, he served as understudy and alternate for the lead role of Evan, performing the role regularly during weekend matinees. In July 2016, he began playing the understudy and alternate for the roles of Coricopat and Mistoffelees in the Broadway revival of Cats. In February 2010, he reprised the role of Evan in a production of 13 The Musical with Capital Area Productions in New York.
At the 2010 New York City Dance Alliance Nationals, Snide's tap performance earned him a four-year college scholarship to Marymount Manhattan College. He was subsequently accepted into the Juilliard School in March 2011, graduating in 2015. He had previously graduated from Colonie Central High School in 2011. Earlier in his career, Snide also appeared in a small role in a pilot for the television series Cupid. In 2018, he visited the Costa Rican dance academy Jazzgoba, and returned there in April 2021 to teach musical theatre, tap, and contemporary dance.
