About
Corbin Bleu Reivers was born on February 21, 1989, in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, the son of Martha Reivers, who is Italian-American, and David Reivers, a Jamaican-American actor born in 1958. Bleu has three younger sisters, and his great-uncle is actor Joseph Callari. His mother attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, and Bleu followed her there as a theater major before later graduating from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. He was admitted to Stanford University upon graduating in 2007 but chose not to enroll.
Bleu's professional work began at an unusually early age. He appeared in television commercials starting at age two for brands including Life cereal, Bounty, Hasbro, and Nabisco. By age four he was signed with the Ford Modeling Agency in New York, appearing in print advertisements for retailers such as Macy's, Gap, Target, and Toys R Us, as well as in publications including Child, Parents, and American Baby magazines. At age six he appeared in his first professional theater production at The Town Hall, a three-concert series created, written, and hosted by Scott Siegel, which included a tribute to David Merrick. In that production he played an abandoned homeless mute in the play Tiny Tim is Dead. His family relocated from New York to Los Angeles in 1996, after which he accumulated episodic television and film credits, including a recurring role on the ABC police drama High Incident and a guest appearance on ER. Feature film work from this period included Galaxy Quest (1999), Mystery Men (1999), and Family Tree (1999). In 2001 he began intensive training at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, where his instruction encompassed ballet, jazz, tap, modern, hip-hop, African, break dance, salsa, flamenco, and ballroom. During high school he won his first substantial film role in Catch That Kid (2004) alongside Kristen Stewart and Max Thieriot, and he also appeared in the Discovery Kids television series Flight 29 Down, playing Nathan McHugh across three seasons beginning in 2004.
Bleu rose to widespread prominence through the Disney Channel original film High School Musical (2006), in which he portrayed basketball player Chad Danforth alongside Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, and Monique Coleman. The film premiered on January 20, 2006, drawing 7.7 million viewers, making it the most successful Disney Channel TV movie to that point, and its soundtrack was certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA. He joined co-stars on the 51-date High School Musical: The Concert tour in 2006 and 2007. The sequel, High School Musical 2, premiered on August 17, 2007, to an audience of over 17.2 million viewers in the United States, making it the highest-rated Disney Channel movie of all time. The song "I Don't Dance" from the franchise peaked inside the top 70 of the Billboard Hot 100. Bleu also starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Jump In! in 2007. That same year his debut album, Another Side, was released, debuting and peaking at number 36 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and selling 18,000 copies in its first week; it included the single "Push It to the Limit." A third installment, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, followed in 2008. His second album, Speed of Light, was released in 2009. That year he also starred in the Ashton Kutcher-produced CW series The Beautiful Life: TBL and appeared in the film Free Style. He competed in the 17th season of Dancing with the Stars.
Bleu made his Broadway debut in 2010, playing Usnavi in the musical In the Heights. He returned to Broadway in 2012 in the revival of Godspell. In 2013 he was cast as Jeffrey King in an online revival of the daytime soap opera One Life to Live. In 2016 he joined the Broadway company of Holiday Inn, the New Irving Berlin Musical, playing Ted Hanover, and subsequently signed a recording contract with Ghostlight Records to distribute his Holiday Inn soundtrack music, released in 2017. In 2019 he returned to Broadway to play Bill Calhoun/Lucentio in Kiss Me, Kate, a performance that earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. Ghostlight Records released the Kiss Me, Kate cast recording on June 7, 2019. His Broadway work extended through 2024.
Beyond his stage and Disney work, Bleu appeared in the films To Write Love on Her Arms (2015), The Little Engine That Could (2011), Scary or Die (2012), Nurse 3D (2013), Sugar (2013), The Monkey's Paw (2013), Walk. Ride. Rodeo. (2019), Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story (2022), and Camp Hideout (2023). In April 2025 he made his West End debut at the London Coliseum, playing Nick Carraway in the European premiere of The Great Gatsby.
