About

Colette Marie Claudette Brosset was a French actress, writer, and choreographer born on 21 February 1922 in Paris, France. She died on 1 March 2007.

Brosset built a film career spanning five decades, beginning with her screen debut in Un coup de rouge in 1937. She followed that with Thérèse Martin in 1938, and after a wartime gap returned to film in 1946 with two productions: Star Without Light, in which she played Lulu, and Master Love, in which she appeared as Marie. Throughout the late 1940s she continued working steadily, taking roles in Are You Sure? (1947), Les Aventures des Pieds-Nickelés (1948), I Like Only You (1949), and Branquignol (1949), in which she played Caroline. The early 1950s brought further credits, including Bernard and the Lion (1951) and Love Is Not a Sin (1952), where she portrayed Eliane Cahuzac.

Brosset was married to actor Robert Dhéry, and the two appeared together in both the stage production and the 1954 film Ah! Les belles bacchantes, in which she played a character bearing her own name. Her collaboration with Dhéry extended to the revue La Plume de Ma Tante, which brought the pair to Broadway in 1958. The production earned Brosset and the entire cast — including Pamela Austin, Roger Caccia, Yvonne Constant, Genevieve Coulombel, Robert Dhéry, Michael Kent, Jean Lefevre, Jacques Legras, Michael Modo, Pierre Olaf, Nicole Parent, Ross Parker, and Henri Pennec — a Special Tony Award in 1959 for contribution to the theatre.

Her film work continued into the 1960s and beyond. She appeared as Paulette Perrignon in La Belle Américaine (1961) and as Lady Yvette Brisburn in Allez France! (1964). In 1965 she played a schoolteacher in La Communale, and in 1966 she had an uncredited role in Is Paris Burning? alongside a prominent part as Germaine in the widely seen comedy La Grande Vadrouille. Later credits included The Little Bather (1968), in which she played Charlotte Castagnier, and Trois hommes sur un cheval (1969), where she took on the dual role of Moll and Kiki. Her television work included the 1972 TV movie A Time for Loving, the 1974 feature Vos gueules les mouettes!, the 1977 production Jack, or The Submission, and the 1987 TV miniseries Qui c'est ce garçon?, in which she played the grandmother. Her final screen appearance came in the 1988 television series Série noire, in the episode Le manteau de Saint Martin.
