About

Christopher Luverne Sieber, born February 18, 1969, in St. Paul, Minnesota, is an American actor whose career on Broadway spans from 1994 to 2024. The son of Fred and Caron Sieber, he grew up as the middle of three children; his older brother Mike was a swimmer, while his younger brother Marc shared his interest in drama. Sieber graduated from Forest Lake Area High School in Forest Lake, Minnesota, in 1988 and was later inducted into the Forest Lake Schools Hall of Fame in June 2011. Following graduation, he relocated to New York City to train at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

Sieber launched his professional stage career with an Off-Broadway appearance in a production of A Christmas Carol in 1994. His Broadway work encompasses a wide range of productions, among them Into the Woods, Monty Python's Spamalot, Shrek the Musical, Pippin, SIX: The Musical, Matilda the Musical, The Prom, Company, and Death Becomes Her. Two of those roles earned him Tony Award nominations for Best Featured Actor in a Musical: his portrayal of Sir Dennis Galahad in Spamalot, recognized at the 59th Tony Awards in 2005, and his portrayal of Lord Farquaad in Shrek the Musical, recognized at the 63rd Tony Awards in 2009. Both roles also brought him nominations from the Drama Desk Awards and the Outer Critics Circle Awards.

In January 2014, it was announced that Sieber would join the Broadway cast of Matilda the Musical as Miss Agatha Trunchbull, with performances originally scheduled to begin March 18. A hand injury sustained during rehearsals delayed his first performance until April 18. In 2016, he originated the role of Trent Oliver in The Prom during its out-of-town tryout at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre, then continued in the role when the production moved to Broadway's Longacre Theatre, where it ran from October 2018 to August 11, 2019. In March 2024, it was announced that Sieber would join the cast of Death Becomes Her as Ernest Menville, with preview performances beginning April 30, 2024, at Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre before the production transferred to Broadway later that year. Outside of his stage work, on June 1, 2007, Sieber sang tenor in the world premiere of Eric Idle's Not the Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy) in Toronto.

Sieber's television career began in 1998 when he played Kevin Burke, father to the characters portrayed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, on the ABC sitcom Two of a Kind, which ran for one season. From 2003 to 2004, he appeared on the ABC series It's All Relative alongside John Benjamin Hickey, playing Simon Banks, one half of a same-sex couple raising a daughter; other cast members included Maggie Lawson, Reid Scott, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Lenny Clarke. In 2007, he portrayed an eccentric zoologist in the NBC comedy pilot Wildlife, which was not picked up by the network. In 2010, he led the ABC comedy pilot It Takes a Village alongside Leah Remini and Cheyenne Jackson. His guest credits include Sex and the City, Pushing Daisies, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and multiple episodes of The Good Wife.

During the production of It's All Relative, Sieber came out as gay and disclosed that he was partnered with actor and chef Kevin Burrows. The two married on November 24, 2011, in New York City and reside on an island on Lake Tamarack in the Stockholm area of Hardyston Township, New Jersey. Sieber is involved with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and has participated in multiple BC/EFA Broadway Cares revues. He also teaches classes in drama and performance.
