About

Christopher Cadwalader Pennock (June 7, 1943 – February 12, 2021) was an American actor, writer, and illustrator born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. After completing his training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he pursued a career that spanned more than four decades across Broadway, off-Broadway, repertory and experimental theater, film, and television. He was a lifetime member of the Actors Studio.

Pennock's Broadway career ran from 1966 to 1971 and included appearances in A Patriot for Me, Abelard and Heloise, and The Rose Tattoo. His stage work extended beyond Broadway to off-Broadway productions and repertory theater throughout his career.

In the early 1970s, Pennock became widely recognized for his work on the television series Dark Shadows, where he portrayed multiple characters across different timelines. He reprised his connection to that property in the 1971 film spinoff Night of Dark Shadows. He went on to accumulate more than fifty guest-starring television roles, appearing on programs ranging from Melrose Place to General Hospital. His film credits included James Ivory's Savages (1972) and Graeme Clifford's Frances (1982), the latter starring Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard.

Beyond performing, Pennock wrote and illustrated a comic-book series drawn from his experiences on the set of Dark Shadows. He was known for his devotion to the Dzogchen school of Tibetan Buddhism. He was married to the former Lynn Dunn, and they had a daughter. Pennock lived with his wife in Idyllwild, California, and died there on February 12, 2021, at the age of 76.
