About

Christian Camargo, born Christian Minnick on July 7, 1971, in New York, is an American actor, director, producer, and writer. He is the son of actress Victoria Wyndham and investment broker Wendell Minnick, and his aunt is Broadway actress Felice Camargo. His maternal grandfather, Ralph Camargo, was a Mexican-American actor who encouraged his daughters to adopt Anglicized names, believing his Latino heritage had cost him roles. Christian later chose to take his grandfather's surname, replacing his father's family name of Minnick, as an act of pride in his Mexican-American heritage and a reconnection to his professional lineage. He has cited Ralph as a formative influence, crediting him as the inspiration for his own pursuit of acting. His brother is photographer Darian Minnick.

Camargo grew up on a small horse farm in Katonah, New York, where he developed an early interest in auto restoration. He attended the Harvey School, graduating from the upper school in 1989, where he first discovered a passion for theatre. He went on to earn a degree from Hobart College in 1992, during which time he served as program director of the college's public radio station, WEOS. He subsequently trained at the Juilliard School as a member of the Drama Division's Group 25, completing the program in 1996.

His Broadway career spans 1996 to 2013. Camargo made his Broadway debut that same year as Edward Sergeant in David Hare's Skylight, alongside Michael Gambon, a production that earned him a Theatre World Special Award in 1997. Michael C. Hall served as his understudy in that production. Following Skylight, Camargo traveled to England to join the inaugural company of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the Southbank, where he met British actress Juliet Rylance, whom he married in November 2008. In 2008, he returned to Broadway to appear in Arthur Miller's All My Sons opposite Dianne Wiest, John Lithgow, and Katie Holmes. In 2013, he portrayed Mercutio in a Broadway revival of Romeo and Juliet, directed by David Leveaux and starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashād.

Beyond Broadway, Camargo has maintained an extensive off-Broadway and regional stage career. At the Public Theater he appeared in Kit Marlowe, and at Classic Stage Company he performed in Steve Martin's Underpants. He played the title role in Theatre for a New Audience's production of Coriolanus, and in early 2009 he took on the title role in the same organization's production of Hamlet, a performance that ran through April 12, 2009, and earned him an Obie Award and a Drama League nomination. He portrayed Orlando in The Bridge Project's As You Like It in Brooklyn and Ariel in the company's The Tempest in February 2010, both directed by Sam Mendes. In 2016, he played the title character in Theatre for a New Audience's off-Broadway production of Pericles, directed by Trevor Nunn, which ran from February through April of that year. In March and April 2017, he portrayed a mid-career Robert Evans in Simon McBurney's stage adaptation of The Kid Stays in the Picture at London's Royal Court Theatre.

On screen, Camargo is perhaps most widely recognized for playing Brian Moser, also known as the Ice Truck Killer, in the Showtime series Dexter. He was a series regular in Season 1 in 2006 and returned as a guest star in Seasons 2 and 6, and again in the sequel series Dexter: Resurrection in 2025. He also portrayed army officer John Cambridge in the Academy Award-winning film The Hurt Locker, Michael Corrigan in the Netflix drama House of Cards, Count Dracula in the third season of Penny Dreadful, Eleazar alongside Mía Maestro in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2, and military leader Tamacti Jun in the Apple TV+ series See, which ran from 2019 to 2022. Additional screen credits include Officer Pavel Loktev in K-19: The Widowmaker, a guest role as Wade Crocker on Syfy's Haven, Chris Santos on Elementary, and a role in the Netflix miniseries Wormwood. In 2022, he appeared in the horror film Student Body as Mr. Aunspach and in Witch Hunt as Detective Hawthorne.

Camargo has also worked as a director and writer. He wrote and directed Days and Nights, a modern retelling of Chekhov's The Seagull, produced by Juliet Rylance and Barbara Romer. He directed The Last Manhunt in 2022, a project he originally joined as an actor playing Sheriff Wilson. When Jason Momoa, who had co-written the screenplay and was set to direct, stepped back due to scheduling conflicts, Camargo assumed directorial responsibilities to keep the production from being canceled, while continuing in his acting role. In 2025, he entered a development deal with Dimension Studio and Two Chairs Production for a planned television series titled Camelot.
