Charles Hill Mailes was a Canadian actor born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 25 May 1870. His career spanned both the stage and the silent screen, establishing him as a working performer across multiple decades and mediums.

Mailes made his Broadway appearance in 1904, taking part in the production of The Virginian. His stage work preceded a lengthy transition into film, where he would go on to appear in 290 productions between 1909 and 1935.

In 1906, Mailes married actress Claire McDowell, and the two appeared together in a number of silent films throughout their careers, among them the 1920 production The Mark of Zorro. The couple had two sons, Robert and Eugene.

Mailes remained active in film through 1935 and died in Los Angeles, California, on 17 February 1937.
