About

Charles F. Miller (June 6, 1878 – November 25, 1952) was an American performer and writer whose career spanned both Broadway and film. Born in the late nineteenth century, Miller worked across multiple entertainment disciplines, establishing himself as a presence in theater before transitioning to a sustained career in motion pictures.

On Broadway, Miller was active as early as 1914, contributing both as a performer and as a book writer. His stage credits from that period include The Doings of Mrs. Dooley and The House of Bondage, two productions that marked his presence in the New York theatrical world during the mid-1910s.

Miller's film career brought him considerable visibility. His screen debut came in an adaptation of Little Women, in which he appeared in the role of a minister. He went on to appear in numerous films, with one of his more prominent roles coming in Phantom of Chinatown, where he starred alongside Keye Luke. Beyond his individual screen appearances, Miller played a role in shaping the film industry itself as one of the founding members of the Screen Actors Guild, the organization established to represent the professional interests of performers in Hollywood.

Miller died in Hollywood on November 25, 1952, having built a career that touched theater, film performance, dramatic writing, and labor advocacy within the entertainment profession.
