Charles Arnt

Charles Arnt (August 20, 1906 – August 6, 1990) was an American actor whose career spanned both Broadway and film. Born in Michigan City, Indiana, he was the son of a banker. He attended Phillips Academy before enrolling at Princeton University, where he co-founded the University Players and served as president of the Princeton Triangle Club theatrical troupe. Following his graduation, he initially pursued a career in banking.

Arnt's path shifted toward the stage in the early 1930s, when he performed with the University Repertory Theater in Maryland. He made his Broadway debut in 1932 in the play Carry Nation, launching a stage career that continued through 1938. His subsequent Broadway appearances included the musical Three Waltzes in 1937 and the musical Knickerbocker Holiday in 1938.

Concurrent with his stage work, Arnt built an extensive career as a film character actor, appearing in more than 200 films between 1933 and 1962. In 1962, he retired from acting and relocated to Washington state, where he imported and bred Charolais cattle on a ranch. He died on Orcas Island, Washington, on August 6, 1990, two weeks before what would have been his 84th birthday.
