About
Charles A. Sellon (August 24, 1870 – June 26, 1937) was an American actor who worked in both stage and film. Over the course of a career spanning from 1901 to 1935, he accumulated more than 100 film and stage appearances.
Sellon's Broadway career ran from 1907 to 1919 and included four productions. His earliest credited stage appearance was in The Cat and the Fiddle in 1907, followed by The Pawn in 1917. He appeared in Roads of Destiny in 1918 and The Challenge of Youth in 1919.
In film, Sellon is perhaps best remembered for two roles from 1934. He portrayed the blind Mr. Muckle in W. C. Fields' comedy It's a Gift, and played a wheelchair-using uncle in Bright Eyes, the Shirley Temple film released the same year. Among his other screen credits were The Mighty, The Painted Desert, and Tracked in the Snow Country.
In his personal life, Sellon was married to Florence E. Willis from 1896 until his death in 1937. The couple had one child, a son named Robert Charles Sellon.
