Charity Angél Dawson is an American actress and singer from Tulsa, Oklahoma, whose Broadway career has spanned from 1996 to 2022. A graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Dawson was drawn to both theatre and culinary arts as a teenager before committing to a career in performance.
Dawson made her Broadway debut in Side Show. She later joined the cast of Waitress prior to its Broadway opening, first serving as Nurse Norma and then understudying the role of Becky during the American Repertory Theatre production in Cambridge, Massachusetts. When the show transferred to Broadway, she assumed the role of Becky in October 2016. Dawson reprised the character on the Waitress national tour in 2017, a performance that earned praise from Rohan Preston of the Minnesota Star Tribune. After the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the production's run, she returned to the role when Waitress reopened on Broadway. She also appears as Becky in the 2023 film adaptation, Waitress: The Musical.
In 2021, Dawson originated the role of Wanda Sellner in the Broadway production of Mrs. Doubtfire. From August 2022 through June 2023, she played Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway. Outside of Broadway, she portrayed Clio, one of the Muses, in Disney's Hercules at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023. Dawson played Angelique in & Juliet on Broadway from January to June 2024. She had been cast as Sarah's Friend in the Broadway revival of Ragtime, which opened in September 2025, but withdrew from the production due to injury.
