About
Cesare Gelli (28 November 1932 – 27 August 2016) was an Italian actor and voice actor born in Rome. His career began in theatrical companies before expanding to include radio and television work for RAI, as well as film and stage productions that brought him international recognition.
Gelli made his film debut in 1962 in a minor role in Luciano Salce's A Girl... and a Million. Throughout his screen career he was primarily cast in supporting parts, with a particular specialization in roles portraying high-ranking politicians and professionals. On stage, he took on the role of Cimosco in multiple theatrical productions of Orlando Furioso, each directed by Luca Ronconi.
Among his most sustained stage commitments was the role of Don Nicolò Paritelli in Rugantino, which he performed across three separate editions of the production. It was this role that brought him to Broadway in 1964, when Rugantino was presented there, marking his appearance on the American stage.
Gelli died in Rome on 27 August 2016 at the age of 83.
