About
Cecil Humphreys (1883–1947) was a British actor born in Cheltenham, England, whose career spanned both stage and screen across several decades. He accumulated credits in 46 films between 1916 and 1948, working predominantly in supporting capacities as doctors, aristocrats, and generals.
Among his film roles, Humphreys is recognized for his portrayal of Judge Linton in the 1939 production of Wuthering Heights, which starred Laurence Olivier. He also appeared in The Razor's Edge (1946), the first film adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's novel, in which he played the character known as the Holy Man.
On stage, Humphreys maintained an active Broadway presence from 1924 to 1945, appearing in a total of 17 productions. His credits included the play Page Pygmalion, the drama The Patriots, the drama The Morning Star, the comedy A Kiss for Cinderella, and the play Hedda Gabler.
Actor Chris Humphreys is his grandson.
