About

Caroline Eugenie Lagerfelt was born on September 23, 1947, in Paris, France, to Baron Karl-Gustav Lagerfelt, a Swedish diplomat and ambassador, and Sara Champion de Crespigny, whose father was British major Vierville Champion de Crespigny and whose mother was Nora McSloy. Her upbringing reflected her father's diplomatic career, taking her through Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Sweden before she attended boarding school in England. She later immigrated to the United States and trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Lagerfelt's Broadway career spans from 1971 to 1992 and encompasses a range of productions directed by some of the most prominent figures in theater. She appeared in The Jockey Club Stakes under the direction of Cyril Ritchard and in Four on a Garden directed by Abe Burrows. Her work in The Constant Wife, which starred Ingrid Bergman and was directed by John Gielgud, earned her a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play in 1975. She appeared in Otherwise Engaged, directed by Harold Pinter, and in The Philanthropist. Later Broadway credits include Betrayal directed by Sir Peter Hall, The Real Thing directed by Mike Nichols, Lend Me a Tenor directed by Jerry Zaks, which received an Outer Critics Circle Award, and A Small Family Business directed by Lynne Meadow.

Off-Broadway, Lagerfelt accumulated an extensive body of work that includes productions of Hamlet, Moonlight, Cloud Nine, Phaedra Brittanica, Indian Ink, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, Nathan the Wise, King Liz, Notes on My Mother's Decline, The Creditors, Close of Play, Other Places, and Quartermaine's Terms, the last of which was directed by Harold Pinter. Her Off-Broadway work earned her an Obie Award.

Her regional and international stage credits include Mary Stuart, The Misanthrope, The Physicists, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Elektra, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Greta Garbo Came to Donegal, The Injured Party, Marina Abramovic: An Artist's Life Manifesto, and To Grandmother's House We Go, in which she appeared alongside Eva Le Galliene.

On television, Lagerfelt is recognized for her roles on Beverly Hills, 90210, Nash Bridges, Six Degrees, Dirty Sexy Money, Gossip Girl, and Sweet Magnolias. She has two sons and divides her time between Santa Monica and New York.
