About

Carol Montgomery Stone (February 1, 1915 – June 10, 2011) was a New York-born actress whose career spanned Broadway, television, and film. The daughter of actor Fred Stone and actress Allene Crater, she came from a family deeply rooted in the performing arts. Her sisters, Dorothy Stone and Paula Stone, were also actresses, and her middle name honored David C. Montgomery, her father's longtime comedy partner. The author Rex Beach was her uncle.

Stone's Broadway career extended from 1934 to 1952 and encompassed a range of dramatic and comedic productions. Her stage credits included They Knew What They Wanted, As You Like It, the farce Lady, Behave!, Desire Under the Elms, and Dark of the Moon, among other productions.

Her television career began on January 2, 1951, with an appearance in Burlesque on CBS. She went on to take a recurring role in the ABC/Desilu western series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, appearing in ten episodes during the 1957–58 season. In that series she portrayed "Big Nose Kate," also known as Kate Holliday, the common-law wife of Doc Holliday.

In 1940, Stone married Robert W. McCahon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. McCahon of Brookline, Massachusetts. The marriage ended in divorce in 1950, and the couple had no children.
