Carol Potter

Carol Potter is an American actress born on May 21, 1948, in New York City. She attended high school in Tenafly, New Jersey, before enrolling at Radcliffe College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in social relations. She is perhaps most widely recognized for her role as Cindy Walsh on the television series Beverly Hills, 90210.

Potter's Broadway career spanned from 1972 to 1977 and included credits in The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds and Albert Innaurato's Gemini, in which she made her Broadway debut in 1977. Gemini went on to become the fifth-longest running non-musical play in Broadway history.

Her transition to television began in 1981, when she took on the recurring role of Maggie Clinton on Today's F.B.I., marking her first regular part in a prime time series. In 1990, she joined the cast of Beverly Hills, 90210 as Cindy Walsh, a role she held until 1995. The series premiered in October 1990, the same month she married actor Jeffrey Josephson. In 1997, she was cast as Joan Cummings on NBC's Sunset Beach, and she has made guest appearances on NYPD Blue, JAG, Crossing Jordan, and Providence. In 2019, she returned to the 90210 franchise in the spin-off BH90210, portraying a version of herself as a therapist for the cast. She also appeared on a "TV Moms" episode of the Anne Robinson version of The Weakest Link, where she won $124,000 for her charity, defeating June Lockhart.

In 1985, Potter married screenwriter Spencer Eastman. Their son Christopher was born in 1987, and three months after his birth, Eastman was diagnosed with lung cancer; he died in 1988. Potter subsequently married Josephson in October 1990.

Alongside her acting work, Potter pursued graduate education and earned a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute in 1997. She holds a license from the state of California as a Marital and Family Therapist and maintains a private practice. Potter is also active in the Episcopal Church.
