Carla Alberghetti

Carla Alberghetti is an Italian soprano born on June 24, 1939, on the Greek island of Rhodes. She appeared on Broadway between 1961 and 1967, with credits including Carnival! and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.

Alberghetti's professional singing career began in 1955 when she made her debut at the Hollywood Bowl performing alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, where she sang "Un bel di Vedremo" from Puccini's Madama Butterfly. In 1960, she joined a touring production of Kismet, appearing opposite baritone Gordon MacRae. The following year, she played Cinderella in a production of the musical Cinderella at the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, a show choreographed by Harding Dorn whose cast included Hal LeRoy, Joe Ross, Patti Karr, Mimi Randolph, and Tommy Rall.

Her Broadway connection to Carnival! came through a family tie: her older sister, Anna Maria Alberghetti, had originated the role of Lili in that production and won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for the performance. Alberghetti took over the role before the show closed on Broadway in 1963 and subsequently brought it on a national tour, starring opposite Ed Ames and Ray Danton.

Beyond the stage, Alberghetti made guest appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, Tonight Starring Jack Paar, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. She also headlined at prominent Las Vegas venues including the Riviera, the Tropicana, and Harrah's.
