About
Carl Gerard, born Carl Gerhard Petersen on 28 September 1885, was a Danish-American actor who worked in both theater and film. He is sometimes credited under the name Carl Gerrard and built a career primarily in supporting roles across stage and screen.
Gerard's Broadway career spanned from 1918 to 1927, during which he appeared in the plays Honor Be Damned! and Not with My Money. His stage work placed him among the working performers of the era who sustained careers across multiple productions during that period.
Beyond the stage, Gerard spent a significant portion of his professional life in Los Angeles, where he pursued work in film. Among his screen appearances was a role in the 1931 production The Public Defender, in which he appeared alongside Boris Karloff. The film centered on efforts to prevent a millionaire from being framed.
In 1910, Gerard married American actress Ethel Grey Terry. The two remained together until Terry's death in 1931. Gerard died on 6 January 1966 in Los Angeles following a heart attack, at the age of 80. His ashes were interred at Hollywood Forever Cemetery alongside those of his wife.
