About

Campbell Cotts (21 April 1902 – 19 February 1964) was an actor born in the Cape Colony who built a career across British stage, film, and television. Before pursuing acting, Cotts studied at Cambridge and qualified as a barrister. He also worked as a published poet. During the Second World War, he served in the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Cotts made his Broadway appearance in 1952, performing opposite Katharine Hepburn in a revival of George Bernard Shaw's The Millionairess at the Shubert Theatre. The production marked his sole credited Broadway engagement.

His British film career spanned roughly a decade, beginning in the late 1940s. Among his screen appearances were Fame Is the Spur (1947), The Brass Monkey (1948), The Idol of Paris (1948), Trottie True (1949), Stop Press Girl (1949), Dear Mr. Prohack (1949), Last Holiday (1950), The Angel with the Trumpet (1950), My Seal and Them (1951), and The Hour of 13 (1952). His later film credits included Barbados Quest (1955), Three Men in a Boat (1956), Just My Luck (1957), and The Good Companions (1957).
