About
Camillo Milli, born Camillo Migliori on 1 August 1929 in Milan, was an Italian actor who worked across stage, film, and television over a career spanning more than six decades. He died on 20 January 2022, at the age of 92, from complications related to COVID-19.
Milli received his theatrical training under Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, where he made his stage debut in 1951 and remained active through 1953. During the 1960s and 1970s he developed a close working relationship with director Luigi Squarzina and became a prominent presence at the Teatro Stabile in Genoa, building a particular specialization in the works of Carlo Goldoni. His stage career extended to Broadway, where he appeared in 1968 in the play The Venetian.
On screen, Milli established himself as a character actor with a strong affinity for comic roles. He appeared frequently alongside comedian Paolo Villaggio, including in the Fantozzi film series, in which he played Direttore Magistrale, Duca Conte Piermatteo Barambani in Fantozzi contro tutti (1980) and Dottor Grandi in Fantozzi subisce ancora (1983). His film work began in the mid-1950s with Girls of Today (1955) and continued for more than sixty years, concluding with Ora non ricordo il nome (2016), in which he appeared as himself. Among his later notable film appearances was a role as Cardinal Pescardona in Nanni Moretti's We Have a Pope (2011) and the part of Licio Gelli in The Bankers of God: The Calvi Affair (2002).
On Italian television, Milli was widely recognized for his portrayal of Ugo Monti in the long-running Canale 5 series CentoVetrine.
