About

Camilla Eibenschütz (July 20, 1884 – July 12, 1958) was a German stage actress born in Bavaria to Albert Eibenschütz, a pianist and music professor, and Anna Theresa Rosa Knorr. Her father's cousin was the Hungarian pianist Ilona Eibenschütz.

Eibenschütz built her early career in Berlin, where she originated the role of Wendla in Frank Wedekind's controversial Frühlings Erwachen (Spring Awakening) in 1906. The following year she appeared as Juliet in Max Reinhardt's production of Romeo and Juliet, with Alexander Moissi in the opposite role. She continued her association with Reinhardt's Shakespeare productions, taking on the roles of Ophelia, Viola, and Titania. In 1909, painter Albert von Keller depicted her as Myrrhine in Lysistrata.

Her Broadway appearance came in 1912, when she starred in Reinhardt's pantomime Sumurun alongside Leopoldine Konstantin, Emil Lind, and other European actors. That same year she appeared in Blue Bird in Berlin, and in 1914 she performed in The Yellow Jacket, also in Berlin.

Outside the theater, Eibenschütz was a collector of art, which she used to furnish two residences: a country home at Bogensberglehen and a villa at Dahlem.

In 1913, she married Polish dramatist Ryszard Ordynski, though the marriage was brief. She later wed newspaper publisher Dr. Wolfgang Huck (1889–1966), with whom she had a son, Andreas Michael Huck, born in 1919. Eibenschütz died on July 12, 1958, at the age of 75. She is buried in Offenbach am Main alongside other members of the Huck family.
