Camila Ashland

Camila Ashland (March 24, 1911 – September 12, 2008) was an American actress born in New York, New York, whose career spanned stage, television, and film across several decades. She appeared in 11 Broadway productions between 1944 and 1973, and earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play in 1967 for her work in Black Comedy/White Lies.

Her Broadway credits included The Day Will Come, the farce The Hot Corner, The Old Women, A Case of Libel, and the musical Darling of the Day, which opened in 1968. Additional stage work included Dear World, Follies in 1971, and a 1973 Broadway revival of The Women. She was married to James Vincent Russo, a Broadway director, and together they adopted a son, Walter Russo.

Beyond the stage, Ashland built a substantial television career. She portrayed Alice Grant on the soap opera General Hospital from 1976 to 1977, and played the recurring character Minnie Du Val on Dark Shadows. She appeared in the 1983 NBC miniseries V and its 1984 sequel V: The Final Battle, in which she played Ruby Engels, roles for which she became particularly well known to television audiences. Her guest appearances included The Golden Girls, Cheers, St. Elsewhere, Hardcastle and McCormick, and Taxi.
