About
Paul "Buddy" Swan, born October 24, 1929, and died March 21, 2993, was an American child actor who worked in both film and theater during the early 1940s. He is perhaps best remembered for portraying the young Charles Foster Kane in Orson Welles's 1941 film Citizen Kane, a role that remains among the most recognized child performances in classic Hollywood cinema.
Beyond Citizen Kane, Swan accumulated a range of film credits during his youth. He appeared in the horror film The Ape and the horror comedy Scared Stiff. He also had a role in The Fighting Sullivans, an Academy Award-nominated film in which he played one of the Sullivan brothers as a child.
Swan's work extended to the Broadway stage, where he performed between 1939 and 1942. His theatrical credits include the musical You'll See Stars, the comedy Mr. Sycamore, and The World We Make. He was sometimes credited in productions under the alternate spelling Buddy Swann.
