Pinkham's Broadway work encompasses a range of productions, including early appearances in Ghost: The Musical and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. In 2013, he originated the role of Monty Navarro in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, a production he sustained for over 700 performances. He subsequently played Peter Patrone in the Broadway revival of The Heidi Chronicles, receiving nominations from the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama League for Distinguished Performance. In 2016, he led the cast of Roundabout Theatre Company's Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn. Additional Broadway credits include Chess, Ohio State Murders, and The Great Society.

On television, Pinkham appeared as a series regular in the second season of the PBS period drama Mercy Street, portraying Major Clayton McBurney III, head of a Union Army hospital. Earlier television work includes the PBS miniseries God in America in 2010, as well as appearances on the CBS dramas The Good Wife and Person of Interest. In 2012, Pinkham was awarded the Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellowship, granted to a limited number of exceptionally talented young artists as they transition from training into professional careers. That same year, he co-founded Zara Aina, a not-for-profit children's theater company operating in Madagascar, alongside Lucas Caleb Rooney. The organization's name translates to "Share Life" and focuses on empowering at-risk children through theater. Pinkham is married to actress Scarlett Strallen, and the couple have two children.
