About

Bruno Bianco Alberto G. G. Barnabe (3 April 1905 – 20 June 1998) was an English actor whose career spanned stage, film, and television across multiple countries. Born in St Giles, London, to Louis Vincent Barnabe and Tina, née Bendi, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he studied mime under Theodore Komisarjevsky. He later married actress Avice Landone, who died in 1976. Barnabe served with the British Armed Forces between 1942 and 1946.

Barnabe's stage career began on 4 April 1927, when he played a wedding guest in The Dybbuk at the Royalty Theatre. His work took him well beyond London: in October 1928 he traveled to Egypt as part of a Shakespearean company under the direction of Robert Atkins, and the following year he accompanied Ben Greet to the United States. During that American tour he portrayed Everyman at Columbia University, marking his first New York stage appearance. His sole Broadway credit came in 1935, when he appeared in the original production of Escape Me Never at the Shubert Theatre. In 1937 he toured Australia and New Zealand with a company led by Fay Compton. Among the other venues where he performed were the Criterion Theatre, the Q Theatre, and the Theatre Royal, Windsor.

Barnabe's screen career began as early as 1927 in film and 1937 in television. His film appearances include Man in the Shadow (1957), Pit of Darkness (1961), The Mummy's Shroud (1967), and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977). On television he was active throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with credits including Maigret, Danger Island, The Troubleshooters, and Jesus of Nazareth, as well as a 1978 television adaptation of King Richard the Second. He died in June 1998.
