Bruce James MacVittie was an American actor born on October 14, 1956, in Providence, Rhode Island. He went on to build a career across stage, television, and film before his death on May 7, 2022, in New York City at the age of 65.
MacVittie's stage work included a Broadway appearance in 1983 in American Buffalo. His television career encompassed guest roles on a wide range of series, among them Miami Vice, The Equalizer, L.A. Law, Law & Order, Homicide: Life on the Street, Sex and the City, Oz, The Unit, Numb3rs, Blue Bloods, and Chicago Med. In 2002, he joined the cast of the HBO drama The Sopranos for its fourth season, portraying the character Danny Scalercio.
On the film side, MacVittie appeared in the 2004 sports drama Million Dollar Baby, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman, in the role of Mickey Mack. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture that year. He also appeared as Detective Eastman in Lonely Hearts.
MacVittie married Carol Ochs in 1997, and the two remained together until his death 25 years later.
