About

Brooke Adams is an American actress born on February 8, 1949, in New York City. Her father, Robert K. Adams, worked as a producer, actor, and former vice president of CBS, and her mother, Rosalind, née Gould, was also an actress. Her sister is actress Lynne Adams. Adams trained at the High School of Performing Arts and the School of American Ballet, and as a child took dance classes at her aunt's studio in Montague, Michigan.

Adams built a substantial film career beginning in the 1970s. Following early appearances in television and low-budget productions including Shock Waves and Car Wash, she gained wider recognition with two 1978 releases: Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven and the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the latter earning her a Saturn Award for Best Actress nomination. Subsequent film credits include Cuba (1979), The Dead Zone (1983), and Key Exchange (1985). Her performance in Gas Food Lodging (1992) brought her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female. She appeared in the 2002 romantic comedy Made-Up, which was written by her sister Lynne Adams and directed by her husband, Tony Shalhoub, and later appeared in both At Last and The Legend of Lucy Keyes in 2005.

On Broadway, Adams was active from 1989 to 2010, appearing in Lend Me a Tenor, Wendy Wasserstein's The Heidi Chronicles, and starring in Lost in Yonkers. On television, she guest-starred in five episodes of Monk, the series in which her husband Tony Shalhoub starred, playing four different roles across those appearances, and appeared once more in the subsequent television film Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie. She also appeared alongside Shalhoub in an episode of Wings.

Adams married Tony Shalhoub in 1992. The couple have two adopted daughters.
