About
Brian Lane Green is an American stage and television actor born on March 9, 1962, in Columbus, Indiana. He grew up in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he began singing in church and went on to win the Church of God national Teen Talent competition. His early performance experience included a local production of Pippin, which helped launch his professional career.
Before establishing himself on Broadway, Green built a varied resume in television, guest starring on Highway to Heaven, Hotel, Matlock, and Murder, She Wrote. He also appeared as a regular cast member on the soap operas Days of Our Lives, Another World, and All My Children. In 2001, he appeared in the film Circuit.
Green made his Broadway debut in 1986 in Big River, playing the role of Huck Finn. His Broadway career, which spanned from 1985 to 1997, also included the play The Life Line and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, in which he performed the title role. His performance in the 1989 Broadway production of Starmites earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. He has also performed the role of Joseph in productions of the show across the country.
Beyond performing, Green collaborated with Billy Stritch and Johnny Rodgers to write the song I Would Never Leave You for Liza Minnelli. The song was performed in Minnelli's Broadway show Liza's at The Palace and appears on the cast recording, which was produced by Phil Ramone. Green has also participated in The Broadway Tenors concerts and serves on the Artistic Advisory Board of Gulfshore Playhouse in Southwest Florida. In 2003, he came out as gay in Out magazine.
