About

Brian Justin Crum is an American singer and actor born on May 28, 1988, in San Diego, California. He attended the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts before leaving his hometown at seventeen to join the cast of the Broadway musical Wicked. He later relocated to New York City, where he built a stage career that spanned from 2008 to 2011.

During his time on Broadway, Crum appeared in Grease and served as a standby for the characters Gabe and Henry in Next to Normal. He also appeared in the drama The Family. Beyond Broadway, he toured with The Addams Family in the role of Lucas Beineke and performed most frequently as Galileo Figaro in the rock theatrical We Will Rock You, in which he starred. During that production, he performed alongside Brian May and Roger Taylor, original members of the band Queen. His work in We Will Rock You earned him several Best Actor in Musical awards. His regional stage credits include productions of Tarzan, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Snapshots. He also appeared in the musical comedy Altar Boyz and developed a working relationship with composer Stephen Schwartz, with whom he performed across the country. In January 2011, Crum appeared on television, playing the character Daniel in the episode "Possessed" from Season 12 of Law & Order: SVU, which aired on January 5 of that year.

Crum gained national attention in 2016 as a competitor on the eleventh season of NBC's America's Got Talent. His audition performance of Radiohead's "Creep" earned enough public votes to advance him to the quarterfinals, where he performed Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight." He continued to the semifinals, where his performance of Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" earned a standing ovation from judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Simon Cowell. For the finale, broadcast on June 28, 2016, Crum performed Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" and finished fourth overall. Grace VanderWaal was declared the season's winner.

Following the competition, Crum and Mary Lambert appeared as guest vocalists on Superfruit's cover of Katy Perry's "Rise." On December 10, 2016, he released a cover of Robyn's "Show Me Love" through Prop D Recordings. The track reached the top ten on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart and peaked at number 33 on the magazine's Dance/Electronic Songs chart. He also released the single "Wild Side" in 2017. Later that year, he appeared on America's Got Talent's Christmas special, performing "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" alongside other previous contestants from the franchise.

Crum returned to America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2019. On the January 28 episode, he performed a cover of Elton John's "Your Song" and advanced to the finals, though he did not finish in the top five. The day after the finale, he released the single "Circles." On March 28, 2019, he sang the national anthem at the San Diego Padres opening day game. He released a music video for "I & U" on June 20, 2019. In 2021, he appeared in a Chicago production of Children of Eden at the Arcada Theatre. In 2024, he competed on America's Got Talent: Fantasy League as a member of Mel B's team but was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2025, he portrayed Annas in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl.

Crum came out as gay during elementary school and was bullied by classmates. With support from his mother, he developed the confidence to pursue a singing career. He has two sisters and at one point lived with an aunt and uncle in Oregon.
