Brian Backer is an American actor born on December 5, 1956, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He is Jewish.

Backer made his Broadway appearance in 1981 in Woody Allen's The Floating Light Bulb, in which he portrayed an Allen-like protagonist. The role earned him three awards that year: the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play, and the Theatre World Award.

On screen, Backer became widely recognized for his 1982 film role as Mark "Rat" Ratner, a shy teenager, in the comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He subsequently appeared in two additional comedy films: Moving Violations in 1985, in which he played Scott Greeber, and Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol in 1987, in which he played Arnie.

Backer's television work included a recurring role on the soap opera Santa Barbara in 1990, where he played A. Bartlett Congdon. He also made guest appearances on Charles in Charge, Gimme a Break!, and Growing Pains.
