About
Brent Briscoe (May 21, 1961 – October 18, 2017) was an American actor, screenwriter, and Broadway performer born in Moberly, Missouri. After studying at the University of Missouri, he began his professional life as a theater actor before expanding into film and television work.
Briscoe made his Broadway appearance in 1994, performing in A Tuna Christmas. His early career also included television writing, with two episodes of Evening Shade credited to him that same year. He went on to write the teleplay for The Right to Remain Silent in 1996 and co-wrote Waking Up in Reno in 2002.
His transition into feature film work was shaped in part by his collaboration with Billy Bob Thornton on Sling Blade, after which Briscoe relocated permanently to Los Angeles. He also maintained a long professional relationship with Mark Fauser, his former college roommate.
Among his most recognized television roles was that of JJ on Parks and Recreation, a part he held from 2011 to 2015.
Briscoe was hospitalized in October 2017 following a fall that caused internal bleeding and heart complications. He died on October 18, 2017, at the age of 56.
