About

Brad Oscar is an American musical theatre actor born on September 22, 1964, in Washington, District of Columbia. He earned a BFA from the Boston University College of Fine Arts in 1986 and received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the institution in 2006. His Broadway career spans from 1990 to 2026, encompassing starring roles and featured appearances across a wide range of productions.

Oscar made his Broadway debut in 1990 as a swing in Aspects of Love. He subsequently appeared in Jekyll & Hyde, playing Sir Peter, Archibald Proops, Barrow Boy, and Second Gentleman, first on the 1995 tour and then in the 1997 Broadway production. His Broadway work also includes Dreamgirls, Wicked, On the Twentieth Century, and Mrs. Doubtfire, among others.

The role that brought Oscar the greatest recognition was Franz Liebkind in The Producers, for which he received a 2001 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, ultimately losing to his co-star Gary Beach. In addition to originating Franz Liebkind, he served as understudy for both Max Bialystock and Roger De Bris during the run. He later replaced Nathan Lane in the Bialystock role on Broadway and in 2007 originated that same role in the Las Vegas production of The Producers at the Paris Hotel and Casino.

Oscar took over the role of Uncle Fester from Kevin Chamberlin in The Addams Family on Broadway beginning March 8, 2011. He also appeared in Spamalot and Big Fish during his Broadway tenure. In April 2015, he originated the role of Thomas Nostradamus in Something Rotten!, earning a second Tony Award nomination, this time for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. That award went to his co-star Christian Borle. Oscar remained with Something Rotten! through its closing in January 2017.

Beyond Broadway, Oscar has maintained an active regional and Off-Broadway career. He played Beadle Bamford in the Tooting Arts Club production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Off-Broadway Barrow Street Theatre in 2017, and portrayed Mr. Mushnik in the Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors from 2022 to 2024. His regional credits include Mr. Applegate in Damn Yankees at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. in 2005, the Master of Ceremonies in Cabaret at Arena Stage in October 2006, multiple roles including Lady Enid in The Mystery of Irma Vep at Arena Stage from June through July 2008, and the title role in Barnum at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Florida from November 12 through December 20, 2008.

Oscar married actor Diego Prieto on April 16, 2012, in a ceremony held at Arena Stage, where the two had met during the 2005 production of Damn Yankees. Molly Smith officiated the ceremony. Oscar and his sister, Victoria Oscar, have also served as the official Santa and Mrs. Claus for the annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Program.
