About

Bonnie Turner is an American writer, producer, and Broadway performer. Born on August 28, 1940, Turner has worked across theater, television, and journalism throughout her career.

Turner appeared on Broadway in 1965 in Mr. Pickwick, marking her presence in professional stage performance during that period.

Alongside her husband Terry Turner, born December 11, 1947, Turner became part of a comedy troupe based in Atlanta during the 1980s. Members of that troupe frequently appeared on the WTBS comedy television program Tush. During the same period, the Turners contributed as feature writers to CNN Headline News, a spinoff of Ted Turner's CNN. They also produced a WTBS Sunday morning magazine program called Good News, hosted by Liz Wickersham.

A fellow troupe member, Jan Hooks, secured a position on Saturday Night Live after appearing in Pee-wee's Big Adventure and subsequently encouraged the Turners to submit writing samples to the show. They were hired three months after submitting their work. During their time on SNL, the Turners wrote sketches including Church Chat, Singing Cowboys, Dysfunctional Family Christmas, and Musicians for Free-Range Chickens.

The Turners are best known for creating two television sitcoms: 3rd Rock from the Sun and That '70s Show. Turner also serves on the board of jurors for the Peabody Awards.
