About

Bonnie Maginn (February 10, 1880 – 1964), also known as Bonnie Magin, was an American stage actress, model, singer, dancer, and vaudeville performer born in Chicago to John R. Magin and Margaret Anna Sullivan Magin. Her Broadway career spanned from 1899 to 1906, during which she appeared in productions including Arizona, Twirly Whirly, Twiddle-Twaddle, Du Hurry, and Higgledy-Piggledy.

Beyond Broadway, Maginn built a reputation as an artists' model and was described in 1901 as the most pictured young woman of her age in America. That same year she shared a bill at the Chicago Opera House with David Warfield, Fay Templeton, DeWolf Hopper, and Lillian Russell in Fiddle-Dee-Dee. Much of her stage work was concentrated in the Weber and Fields productions in New York, where she typically performed in soubrette roles.

In 1903, Maginn was a featured dancer in Klaw and Erlanger's production of Mr. Blue Beard when it opened at Chicago's Iroquois Theatre. She and the rest of the cast survived the catastrophic and fatal fire that broke out during the show's run. The following year she appeared in Frank Daniels' The Office Boy, and in the 1904–1905 season she was cast in Joe Weber's Higgledy-Piggledy and The College Widower. In 1906 she toured with Weber's company alongside Marie Dressler and Flora Zabelle, before retiring from the stage prior to 1910.

Outside of performing, Maginn owned a large cattle ranch in Montana and was reported to be a multi-millionaire by 1905. In 1906 she was residing in New York City. She was the companion of John T. Davis, a wealthy West Virginia landowner whose father was the politician Henry Gassaway Davis. In 1924, Maginn sued Davis for breach of promise after he divorced his wife but declined to marry her and ceased providing her financial support in 1922. She was also romantically linked with actor John Barrymore. Maginn died in 1964 at the age of 84 and is buried in Kew Gardens, New York.
